It’s nighttime. You’re in bed. And your mobile device lights up. I thought I turned off all my notifications, you think to yourself. It’s the new National Wireless Emergency Alert Ready System the government has been testing out this past year.
EMERGENCY ALERT / ALERTE D’URGENCE / ALERTA DE EMERGENCIA
EXTRATERRESTRIAL SPACESHIPS INBOUND. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A TEST.
The coming spaceship of an alien species will enter Earth’s atmosphere in 24 hours.
What do you do?
The first thing that comes to my mind is, I have to get to my family. Then I would call them.
“Did you hear the news?!”
“Are you safe?”
“Keep your phones on and charged.”
“I love you.”
Something like that.
My family lives three hours out of the city. But I don’t have a car. I could use my girlfriends car, but I can’t drive stick. This is a problem – I need a vehicle to get out of the city.
In the meantime, I would…
-monitor social media (probably Twitter)
-pack supplies and camping gear (lucky for us we have a closet of camping gear ready to go (more or less))
–gather with my girlfriend and her immediate family
-ask around for more info
–call and check in with my immediate family
–borrow a vehicle from girlfriends family
–drive up north three hours to my parents
Gather your thoughts.
Gather your supplies.
Protect yourself and your family.
Wait for more information to come in.
Not much else the average person could do.
Now, the drive out of the city, up north to my parents, would be a whole other dangerous adventure. Wonder what I would do then…
