Twitter API Burns Down, Real Journalism Rises Out of Ashes

Around 5pm EST, Twitter addicts like myself were denied our fix. What do addicts do when they run out? Look for more.

Here at DownCulture, we searched the web as soon as we got word. Like most of you, we found out via DownDector.

We then furiously researched and scoured our sources (aka we clicked the “News” tab in Google search).

The first to report on the Twitter calamity, was Stephen Mcilkenny from the Scotland Herald. Great reporting, Stephen. The use of the outage map and screenshot of the reporting graph was phenomenal. However, the giant pop-us on the site are atrocious. It really took away from your prose and imagery. Might want to have your I.T. person look into that.

Our next source is from Fox8’s award winning field reporter, Michael Geheren. Michael even got some quotes from the tech giant itself:

“We know people are having trouble Tweeting and using Twitter. We’re working to fix this issue as quickly as possible.”

A Twitter spokesperson also confirmed the outage to Michael in graphic detail (WARNING – MATURE CONTENT):

“We know people are having trouble Tweeting and using Twitter. We’re working to fix this issue as quickly as possible. We’ll share more when we have it and Tweet from @TwitterSupport when we can – stay tuned.”

Finally, luckily for DownCulture readers, we have exclusive access to Locals.com (no it’s not a dating site) social media celebrities, Scott Adams and Dave Rubin. We’ve obtained these screenshots from a sting operation this morning:
